“Lord if
it is you”, Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” “Come”, He
said.
Mathew
14:28,29
The
beautiful thing about Peter in this verse is that that he asked JESUS to call
him towards Him! What would have I asked? Maybe, “Lord if it is you, tell me to
walk on water”. And if JESUS would have said yes, I would have jumped down the
boat ran all around the lake. But Peter did a very beautiful thing! It was like
a child asking his Super Parent (because He is actually walking on water, cmon!)
to call him to HIM! As if he was planning to run towards JESUS and hug Him!
Saying LORD thank you for choosing me, I could never have done or seen these
things if you had not called me! And maybe he would have also worshipped HIM!
But poor
Peter did a blunder, in verse 30. One thing I don’t get
is, wasn't Peter a fisherman? How could he drown? Aren't all
fishermen supposed to know swimming? Or maybe he got too scared
and didn't know what to do.
But the
good thing is Peter was actually walking towards JESUS, so HE was at immediate
reach. But it is not that, if Peter was far, JESUS could not have immediately
gotten close to him and helped him up.
The thing
I learnt from this passage was that Peter used the power GOD gave him to walk
towards GOD! And as soon as he was about to drown GOD helped him up. Being near
GOD, spending time with HIM makes us call HIM first for help, because, now we
find HIM closer to us than anything or anyone. When our own strength gives away
we realize that only GOD and GOD alone can save us.
And since
we heed to GOD’s call and are closer to HIM even when we might trip or even
start to sink in the world but will never drown completely. HE will never let
us go. HE will remind us that we have to trust HIM but never punish us by
letting us die! HE loves us so much!
GOD Bless
you! and HE loves you loads!
